Welcome to the website of the 30ª Blackshirt Battalion, Montebello,
a non-political WW2 Italian reenactment group dedicated to portraying the
elite "M" Battalion soldiers of the Italian
army. The Italian experience in the Second World War is a vastly neglected
one in conventional media and unfortunately plagued with stereotypes thanks
to relentless Allied propaganda. The simple fact of the matter is that
the Italian soldiers performed heroically in action, despite being often
besot with supply shortages and outdated equipment. When properly lead,
the Italian soldier was as brave and tenacious as the Roman Legionaries whose
footsteps he followed. At its height, the Italian conquests included
Albania, Greece, Yugoslavia, Northern Africa, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia,
and parts of France. The indefatigable Italian troops also served in
Russia during Operation Barbarossa, which is our primary representation.
The purpose of this organization is to serve as an educational and social society for Italian enthusiasts and history buffs. Our concentration is on the Second World War and the role Italy and Italians played in it. The group does not exist to dissemenate nor tolerate any extremist ideologies. By taking to the field in recreated battles against the belligerents of World War Two, by hosting displays and interactive discussions, and by doing our utmost to represent the Italian soldier as accurately as possible, we will achieve those things!
All members are responsible for acquiring their own uniforms and equipment. We operate in a not-for-profit fashion and are strictly volunteers, most of us based in the Mid-Atlantic area. Enjoy the website!
