Battaglia del Bulge, 30 Gennaio Anno LXXXVIII
(Fort Indiantown Gap, P.A.)
Rapporto da Camicia Nera Scelta Mario Macchetti
Vice Ministro del Gran Consiglio del Fascismo
Egrigio Signor:
Elements of the 30ª CC.NN «Montebello» Legion participated
in the 2010 Fort Indian Town Gap, Pennsylvania (near the French border)
offensive. Our legionari had to be self-sufficient and resourceful as no
rear line support units were provided or available. In addition none of our
armor or artillery was seen or heard anywhere on our front lines. Our German
Frundsberg Division comrades starved and froze at their posts, but luckily
some of our 30ª «Montebello» troops were among their ranks.
They were able to distribute some surplus Italian supplies to the young, suffering
and inexperienced Frundsberg troops and their supporting 352nd pioneer
contingency. The abundance of Italian supplies thanks to our efficient and
tireless factory workers will surely stem the tide of the war in our favor,
despite the arrival of the Anglo-American second front in Normandy.
Enemy patrols were relentless and we were continually harassed up and
down the lines. The 30ª «Montebello» sent out many small
reconnaissance forces but none ever returned. Enemy activity reports had
to be obtained by experienced ex-Alpini volunteers scaling the higher trees
and observing enemy positions.
Although ammunition was running dangerously low, perhaps due to more
desperate elements amongst our German allies, the Blackshirts held their
positions and made every shot count. No official count of enemy casualties
was taken but many of the enemy's attempts to infiltrate our lines ended
in failure. This was evident by the many enemy corpses laying in waste in
front of the Italian positions.
Other sectors held by our German comrades were not as fortunate as their
dwindling supplies and the inexperience of their infantry and pioneer troops
took their toll. On several occasions every second man of the legion had
to fall-out and be re-deployed to strengthen the threatened German sectors.
While the German is a respectable fighting man, he has only had a military
tradition of, at most, four hundred years, while Italian blood has been made
invincible by nearly three thousand years of swinging Roman steel.
On the afternoon of 30 January, at 2:41PM, the enemy attacked in force
on all sectors with armor supported by what looked to be an entire infantry
division. The lines on our flanks started to weaken. Rumors of some sectors
(not ours, of course) being overrun were also circulating.
Thanks to the experience of our officers who quickly assessed the situation,
a general order of retreat tactical withdrawal was issued
to the legion. Although the "tactical withdrawal" was successful, there
was nothing that could be done for our German comrades who were overwhelmed.
Many young "soldaten" and their officers were gunned down at their posts,
so swiftly that many had no chance to counter attack.
The enemy moved quickly on our flanks and attempted to encircle our troops
but they were not quick enough to catch us. The entire legion escaped with
minimal casualties. Many legionari vowed to avenge the slaughter of their
10th Frundsberg comrades. The 30ª CC.NN «Montebello» is currently
being refitted with more excellent supplies, uniforms, equipment, and armaments.
Even now our officers are having great difficulty in holding back our
young vengeful legionari. Such is the spirit found in victors.
The day will pass where the spirit of every Frundsberg soul lost on that
day will be avenged tenfold by the 30ª CC.NN «Montebello».
Viva il Gran Consiglio del Fascismo, viva Italia, e viva la Legione 30ª
CC.NN «Montebello».
