The
Uniform and Kit is broken down into three sections. Legionaries should
develop their impression in this order.
The
tropical uniform is a very easy side impression for Blackshirts of the 30th
Legion. In the event the legion attends a North Africa or Sicily event,
the tropical impression would be appropriate. There were no "M" Battalions
serving in this theater, but the appearance of a "generic" Blackshirt is
easily attained.
Leave off the M40 tunic and field in shirtsleeves. The black shirt
should be completely devoid of decoration and insignia. Only officers
may wear rank stars on the left breast of the shirt. (One for Sotto
Capo Manipolo, two for Capo Manipolo, and three for Centurione.) Black
cotton tie is not necessary and collar may be worn open.
All leather gear is the same. Legionaries may wear either the grigio-verde
wool pantaloons with puttees, or they may wear khaki cotton pantaloons. Khaki
shorts are also acceptable and may be worn with puttees or socks.
If the tunic is not worn, the legionary is to wear his black cummerbund about
the waist and position the leather belt and ammunition pouches over it to
better distribute the weight and for greater comfort.
Headgear may be M33 steel helmet painted grigio-verde or tan, M29 pith helmet
with tricolor cockade and MVSN insignia, black MVSN fez, or khaki cotton
bustina.
Footwear may be the Italian M12 boot (preferably), British ammo boot, or
leather sandal. |
